Situated on the eastern slopes of Pritchard Hill, the 42 acres comprising the illustrious Montagna Vineyard rise 1,200 feet above the valley floor.
With the yellow and largely red soils characteristic of the Vaca Range’s upper reaches, the dirt is littered with huge boulders.
These “Sobrante” (volcanic, loam) soils are well drained, making for small, intensely flavored grapes with thin skins.
